Christmas is the perfect excuse for going to local markets and, most especially, charity sales where you can do some Christmas shopping and support a good cause at the same time.
Charity fairs and jumble sales are a great place to search for hidden treasures, in amongst all the items that have been donated. A bit of patience and a keen eye are all that is needed to hunt out those things with special character in amongst everything else on offer. With a bit of luck you can pick up some real treasures.
This weekend, there are two such fairs taking place in Salamanca. Decorative goods, books, jewellery and toys are but a few of the things available at the PYFANO charity fair (address: Calle Toro 68), which is open until 20th December. The money raised will be used to help children with cancer in the Castilla y León region.
Then, on Sunday 21st December, there’s the Asociación de Vecinos Barrio Oeste (ZOES) charity book and toy fair in the Plaza de las Carmelitas. What makes this one particularly unusual is that the youngsters themselves will be helping to sell the items as an educational and learning experience.
